...began his career in 1965 at the age of twelve, singing and playing drums with a neighborhood group, The Teen Tones. During his stint with the group Tom taught himself to play guitar and piano and began writing original songs at the age of fifteen. He continued playing for various groups through out his high school years and in 1978 stepped out from behind the drums to play guitar and front his own cover band, The Sound.

Commercial success came in 1981 with The Bouncing Balls, a group he formed primarily to perform original music. Their independently produced music video, "An American Anthem," received extensive airplay on MTV, HBO and other national video outlets. In addition to his musical contributions, Tom served as executive producer for the video.

In 1984 Tom left the group to pursue a solo career, adopting his longtime nickname "Tender" as his stage moniker. For the past 15 years, he has been performing for corporate, private and college audiences, earning a devoted following. Tom cites John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Pete Townshend , Brian Wilson and Paul Simon as major influences.
